“Shek O in May,” written and read by Stephen Allen, was first published in The Hong Kong Review (Vol. IV, No. 1, p. 74). Stephen Allen is a British poet and semi-retired physician, educated at Kingswood Grammar School and Manchester University. English literature is one of his passions, and he has written poetry since early adult life. His poems reflect a deep interest in the natural world and our spiritual connection to it, and favor the use of rhyme, alliteration, structure and a strong sense of place. Many of his poems have appeared in literary journals, and in two collections, Unfrozen and Stoneground (Hobnob Press). Stephen has lived and worked at various times in Manchester, Stockport, Zambia, Hong Kong, Dorset and Salisbury.
